All-new Ford Ranger's engine
Ford South Africa finally launched its all-new Ranger bakkie in the country. Available in double cab guise only, the Blue Oval will introduce more body shapes in 2023; these being single and King cab.
But the big news surrounding the new bakkie is the addition of an F150-souced V6 turbodiesel engine, adapted for Ranger application.
However, while this new engine is the talk of the current range, Ford has decided to omit the 2.2-litre and five-cylinder 3.2-litre turbodiesel engines from the line-up.
Here are all the engines and gearboxes powering the all-new Ford Ranger.

2.0-litre single turbo
The 2.0-litre now acts as the new entry point to the new Ranger line-up. The engine churns out 125kW and 405Nm, and powers the Base, XL, and XLT models.
The two Base models are available with Ford’s six-speed manual gearbox, while the four XL models offer the manual and a six-speed automatic transmission.
The XLT is only available with the six-speed automatic gearbox.
All models are available in 4×2 and 4×4.

2.0-litre bi-turbo
News around the bi-turbo engine is that the power output decreased by 3kW over the previous engine. Now thumping out 154kW, the torque is still an impressive 500Nm. It is mated with Ford’s acclaimed 10-speed automatic transmission.
This engine powers two of the four XLT models – available in both 4×2 and 4×4 – as well as two WildTrak models. The Ranger WildTrak is also available in 4×2 and 4×4.

Brawny V6
The new 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel engine will power only one model, that being the top-of-the-range derivative. The 184kW/600Nm engine is also mated to the 10-speed automatic transmission, but is exclusively equipped with a permanent all-wheel drive system.
Doreen Mashinini, General Manager for Marketing at Ford South Africa, said of this engine: “Our goal was to make this Ranger the toughest and most capable we’ve ever created.
“It was put through one of the most exhaustive global testing schedules we’ve ever developed to ensure that it was truly Built Ford Tough.
“The 3.0-litre turbodiesel V6 delivers seemingly endless power and torque matched to exceptional refinement, which is exactly what our customers wanted.”
Ford will introduce the Ranger Raptor later this year, with the new bakkie boasting a turbocharged 3.0-litre petrol engine pushing out 292kW and 583Nm.
