The Suzuki Jimny just got better, and five doors are sure to make it more popular.

It’s been rumoured for a while, but Suzuki revealed a five-door Jimny at the recent Auto Expo 2023 in India. Sticking to the familiar Jimny design and looks, the fourth-generation Jimny will see the new model join the über popular three-door variant.

And yes, this new model will be available in South Africa, too, with the Japanese automaker hoping to launch the new model sooner rather than later.

Though the bigger Suzuki Jimny will be powered by the naturally aspirated 1.5-litre petrol engine found in the three-door variant, it’s speculated that more powertrain options will form part of the line-up, including a hybrid option.

The five-door Jimny will also be available with Suzuki’s All-Grip four-wheel drive system, with a choice of a five-speed manual and four-speed automatic transmission sending power to the road.

The five-door Jimny is 360mm longer than its sibling, but the width and height remain unchanged. The wheelbase has also been extended by 340mm to 2 590mm. Ground clearance is still 210mm.

The new five-door Jimny has an approach angle of 36 degrees, a breakover angle of 24 degrees and a departure angle of 50 degrees. For comparison, the three-door Jimny offers 37 degrees, 28 degrees and 49 degrees, respectively.
