More sophisticated Honda CR-V now in SA with R1m price

Honda continues its recent product offensive with the new CR-V.

The 6th generation of Honda’s most popular SUV, the Honda CR-V is perfect for daily life or weekend escapes, with a rugged and sophisticated design inside and out, a more spacious interior, increased utility, and a more advanced powertrain system for a sportier driving experience.

Benefitting from longer and wider premium proportions and a significantly broader stance, the CR-V further advances the new Honda design direction with a low horizontal beltline, a long, powerful front end, and clean detailing.

Inside, the new CR-V is quieter, more comfortable, and more versatile, with the most cabin and cargo space ever in a CR-V. With premium, high-quality materials, upscale touches, and improved visibility, the CR-V’s sporty, modern, and spacious interior is a fresh take on Honda’s new interior design direction, introduced with the 2022 Civic.

The wide instrument panel features clean surfacing and a striking metal honeycomb mesh that conceals the air vents for an uncluttered and harmonious look. New front Body Stabilizing Seats reduce fatigue and improve posture.

Intuitive and intelligent technology also has been smartly integrated into the cabin. Standard features include a digital instrument display, a 9-inch touchscreen with wireless smartphone integration, plus wireless phone charging.

Improved engine

With an updated and refined direct-injection 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine under the hood, the new 2024 CR-V demonstrates that even as Honda heads into the electrified era, the company continues to make important improvements in the efficiency and performance of its internal combustion engine technology.

Multiple enhancements to the 1.5-liter turbo provide a more refined driving experience and enhanced power delivery. Running on regular unleaded petrol, the engine produces 140kW @ 6 000rpm and maintains peak power over a broader range at higher revs than before. Its 240Nm peak torque spans 1 700 – 4 500rpm.

VTEC variable valve timing is now used on the exhaust side of the twin-cam head. This helps improve exhaust efficiency and optimizing valve overlap, efforts that contribute to improved fuel efficiency. It also helps lower the engine speed for peak torque.

Improving acceleration response is a high-efficiency high-response turbocharger and low pressure-loss turbocharger piping. The turbocharger now routes exhaust gas diagonally to the turbine wheel, and the turbine blades also have been reshaped, helping the turbocharger generate pressure in a wider range of engine speeds and more efficiently.

New design

Longer and wider than its predecessor, the new CR-V’s sportier proportions are highlighted by a sleek roofline, a notably wider stance, and a long hood that’s now held up by hydraulic struts to ease servicing.

A strong horizontal beltline begins at the trailing edge of the headlights and extends to the rear, emphasizing its increased overall length (+115mm longer), while 10mm of additional width gives it a more premium stance and presence.

The base of the A-pillars has moved 120mm rearward, 70mm outward, and 35mm lower for improved visibility. A new larger rear windshield improves rearward visibility.

The range-topping Exclusive grade features even bolder styling including more aggressive front and rear facias and even sportier grille mesh highlighted with a gloss black accent. The Exclusive grade is the only trim with polished stainless-steel exhaust finishers, Front & Rear sport bumpers, 19-inch alloy wheels, and a panoramic sunroof.
