2024 Volkswagen Tiguan
The latest generation of the Volkswagen Tiguan has officially launched, marking an exciting new chapter for one of the most popular SUVs in South Africa.
The third-generation Tiguan is poised to build on its global success, with more than 7.4 million units sold worldwide since its debut in 2007. Since its South African launch in 2009, the Tiguan has found more than 41 000 buyers locally, cementing its reputation as a go-to choice for many South Africans. With its blend of fresh design, advanced features, and premium interior, the new Tiguan aims to continue Volkswagen’s legacy of providing top-tier SUVs to the local market.
The Tiguan’s design strikes a balance between familiar Volkswagen aesthetics and modern upgrades. A more muscular front end, featuring integrated LED headlights and a sleek glass-covered bar, replaces the traditional radiator grille, giving the vehicle a more assertive presence.

This design also improves aerodynamics, reducing the drag coefficient from 0.33 to 0.28, contributing to better performance and efficiency. The Tiguan is available in three striking new colours – Persimmon Red Metallic, Cipressino Green Metallic, and Oyster Silver Metallic – allowing buyers to further personalise their vehicles.
The interior of the new Tiguan is where it truly shines. Volkswagen has overhauled the cabin to create a sophisticated and user-friendly environment, incorporating high-quality materials and cutting-edge technology. The centrepiece is the fourth-generation Modular Infotainment Matrix (MIB4), which includes a Digital Cockpit and a large 12.9-inch infotainment screen. The layout is intuitive, allowing drivers to customise the home screen and easily navigate functions using touch bars located at the top and bottom of the screen. An optional 15-inch screen and head-up display are available for those seeking even more tech features.
South African drivers who often spend long hours on the road will appreciate the new ergoActive Plus leather seats, which offer advanced lumbar support and a 10-chamber massage function. These seats come standard in the R-Line model and are optional in the Life derivative, making the Tiguan a comfortable option for daily commutes and long-distance journeys alike.

Another standout feature is the optional IQ.LIGHT HD matrix headlights. Derived from the larger Volkswagen Touareg, these high-tech lights provide superior illumination with 38 400 multi-pixel LEDs, ensuring optimal visibility in all driving conditions. The new Tiguan is the first model based on Volkswagen’s MQB platform to feature this advanced lighting system, underscoring its focus on innovation and safety.
In terms of practicality, the new Tiguan offers a larger luggage compartment, despite its slightly longer length. The 652-litre capacity ensures plenty of room for everything from grocery runs to family road trips. Park Assist Plus, a feature that helps drivers park with ease, comes standard, along with a suite of other driver-assist technologies including Adaptive Cruise Control, Hill Start Assist, and Lane Assist.
Under the hood, the new Tiguan offers a 1.4 TSI engine that delivers 110 kW of power and 250 Nm of torque, mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission. This combination allows the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.2 seconds, with a top speed of 207 km/h. For South African buyers seeking more power or fuel efficiency, 2.0 TDI and 2.0 TSI engine options will be available in the near future, expanding the range of choices.

Pricing for the new Tiguan starts at R651 500 for the 1.4 TSI model and goes up to R835 900 for the 2.0 TSI R-Line 4Motion variant. All models come with a 3-year/120 000 km warranty and a 5-year/90 000 km EasyDrive service plan, offering peace of mind for South African buyers.
