Ulterio Motiv, a newly launched subsidiary of renowned armouring company SVI Engineering, has unveiled its first two products in the South African market, both based on the legendary Toyota Land Cruiser 79. The new models – a 6×4 and a 6×6 version – combine advanced engineering with rugged design, catering to off-road enthusiasts and professionals needing durable vehicles for extreme conditions and heavy loads.
Merging Innovation and Toughness
Ulterio Motiv is making a name for itself by creating versatile vehicles capable of conquering the toughest terrains. Designed with the demanding South African landscape in mind, these modified Land Cruiser 79 models are built to handle anything from off-road adventures to heavy-duty work. With two distinct options available – a 6×4 and an ultimate 6×6 configuration – buyers can customise their vehicle to suit their specific needs.
These vehicles offer a blank canvas for customization, whether for camping, emergency services, or specialized load-carrying purposes. Customers can enhance their Land Cruiser further with components from Ironman 4×4 or other aftermarket suppliers, ensuring a tailored experience that matches their unique requirements.

The Ultimate 6×6 Toyota Land Cruiser 79 Bakkie
The standout in this new range is the 6×6 version of the Toyota Land Cruiser 79. Featuring an added third axle, this model offers an impressive gross vehicle mass (GVM) of 6 050 kg, significantly up from the standard model’s 3 200 kg. This increase in load-carrying capacity is achieved through a sophisticated chassis extension that maintains the integrity of the original structure.
The vehicle’s off-road capabilities are further enhanced by three differential locks, ensuring optimal performance across difficult terrains. Both rear axles have been track-corrected, aligning the wheels for better stability and performance. While many other 6×6 systems rely on complex drive shafts and gearboxes, Ulterio Motiv’s system uses a straightforward differential drive combined with a slipper-type clutch that only activates full 6×6 drive when required.
Additional features, like an upgraded hydraulic-assisted brake booster and braided hose lines, ensure safer and more efficient braking performance, even under heavy loads. Impressively, these brake components can be retrofitted to any 70-series Land Cruiser, adding versatility to the product line.
Due to its upgraded load capacity, drivers of the 6×6 Land Cruiser will require a code C1 (formerly code 10) license to legally operate the vehicle on South African roads.

Toyota Land Cruiser 79 6×4 Bakkie: A Cost-Effective Alternative
For those seeking a more affordable solution, the 6×4 version offers a similar aesthetic and nearly comparable functionality to the 6×6, but with one key difference – the third axle is not powered by the engine. However, the vehicle retains its 4×4 capabilities, making it an excellent choice for off-road excursions while still boasting a substantial GVM of 5 500 kg.
In this configuration, the bogey system allows the driven axle to carry 60% of the load, ensuring better traction and handling. Like the 6×6, the 6×4 is equipped with brakes on the third axle, providing safety and control, even under heavy load conditions.

Customisation and Flexibility
Both models can be further enhanced with optional 35-inch steel wheels, which not only improve ground clearance but also provide additional grip for challenging off-road conditions. The chassis can be fitted with a variety of rear loading options, such as a custom drop-side load bin or a bespoke design from a third-party converter, giving customers complete control over their vehicle’s configuration.
What’s more, owners of existing Toyota Land Cruiser 79 models – whether fitted with the straight-six, V8, or four-cylinder automatic engine – can have their vehicles converted into 6×4 or 6×6 models by Ulterio Motiv.

Build Time and Pricing
For those interested in these heavy-duty bakkies, the 6×4 conversion is priced at R389 950 (excluding VAT), while the 6×6 conversion comes in at R895 000 (excluding VAT). These prices exclude the cost of the base vehicle, as well as any aftermarket wheels, tyres, or load bin installations.
Ulterio Motiv estimates a build time of three months for both the 6×4 and 6×6 conversions, subject to prior sales.
