2025 GWM P300

The GWM P300 is now in SA, complete with a new engine.

The GWM P300 has officially arrived, expanding the brand’s bakkie line-up with a model designed to balance performance, capability, and modern refinement. Following the success of the larger P500, the P300 aims to offer a versatile package for South African buyers who need a durable workhorse with the latest technology and premium finishes.

Compared to the existing P-Series, the P300 introduces notable design enhancements that give it a bolder presence on the road. A larger front grille, redesigned bumpers, and sleeker LED headlights contribute to its more aggressive stance, while 18-inch alloy wheels and sculpted wheel arches further emphasize its rugged appeal.

Practicality has also been considered, with the inclusion of fixed or off-road sidesteps and a tailgate step for easier access to the load bay. Additionally, a sunroof has been added to the range, an uncommon feature in this segment. Buyers can select from a range of colours, including Mars Red, Swarovski Blue, White, Pittsburgh Silver, Grey, and Black.

P300’s New Engine

At the heart of the new bakkie is a 2.4-litre turbo diesel engine delivering 135 kW and 480 Nm of torque. Power is sent through a 9-speed automatic transmission, ensuring smooth shifts and optimised fuel efficiency. The bakkie is available with either 2WD or 4WD, with the latter benefiting from an Intelligent 4WD System and features such as Electronic Differential Locks, Off-Road Expert Mode, and, in the case of the LTD model, Crawl Control.

The LT model also includes a Torque-on-demand (TOD) system that automatically adjusts torque distribution for better grip and stability in challenging conditions. To further enhance its off-road credentials, the P300 is equipped with a double-wishbone front suspension and a leaf spring rigid axle at the rear.

In terms of utility, the P300 offers a maximum towing capacity of 3.5 tonnes, making it well-suited for hauling caravans, trailers, and heavy equipment. The payload capacity is designed to handle demanding tasks, ensuring that the bakkie is as capable in the workplace as it is on the open road. The Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT) enhances efficiency by adjusting airflow in the turbine, which improves power delivery while reducing fuel consumption.

Noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) levels have also been optimised, with enhanced fuel injection strategies and soundproofing materials used to refine the driving experience.
