Toyota Vitz X-Cite

2023 Toyota Vitz X-Cite

Toyota expands its Vitz line-up and cuts the price by R20 001.

Thanks to a promotional rebate on the new Toyota Vitz, the new city car takes over the mantle as South Africa’s most affordable car.

Bought out of the box, proverbially speaking, the entry-level Toyota Vitz will set you back R169 899 – aided by the R20 001 rebate added to the base price. This offer only applies to the Vitz 1.0 5MT, Vitz 1.0 XR 5MT, and Vitz 1.0 XR AMT.

The three-cylinder 1.0-litre petrol engine powering the range offers 49kW and 89Nm, and is powered by either a five-speed manual transmission or an automated manual transmission.

The two Vitz X-Cite models do not benefit from the rebate. When the promotion runs its course, the R20 001 will be added to the identified models’ base prices, repricing the Vitz 1.0 at the original R189 900.

The Suzuki S-Presso 1.0 GL manual will (again) be SA’s most affordable car at R169 900.

All Vitz models are sold with a two-year/30 000km service plan, and a three-year/100 000km warranty is also provided. Service intervals are pegged at 12 months/15 000km, whichever comes first.

It’s in the details

Toyota also used the opportunity to, along with the rebate, to introduce the new addition to the Vitz line-up: the X-Cite.

To distinguish this model from the rest of the range, orange hues are placed on various focal points including the front and back ends as well as on the side. Up front, the orange accents serve as a garnish for the lower grille on either side.

On the side, the mirrors are wrapped in black, grey and orange decorative detail. The same colour palette is further replicated with the X-Cite badging and the flash of orange on the protective black side moulding.

Not to be mistaken with any of its siblings, the X-Cite adorns a bold, bright rear spoiler when viewed from the back.

Once inside, touches of orange do great justice in balancing the predominantly black-hued interior. In the cockpit, there are the air-vent cowls and the gear frame bracket that sport the orange tone.

The specs

Core attributes such as the spacious interior, best-in-class 295L of boot space, and frugal fuel consumption (4.4-litres/100km, claimed) make the Toyota Vitz X-Cite a compelling choice in its segment.

In addition, there are a host of convenience features such as remote central locking, air conditioning, steering wheel controls for telephony and audio functions, and electric mirrors/windows.

The X-Cite comes with an audio system that features Bluetooth, Aux, and USB connectivity options. The XR X-Cite MT boasts a four-speaker sound system as part of the integrated touchscreen infotainment system, featuring Bluetooth and USB functionality.

The latter also has Apple Carplay and Android Auto incorporated to allow users to connect to their smart devices via the vehicle’s infotainment system and to access various phone Apps such as Maps and Spotify.
